How Does Exercise Help Your Voiceover?

We all know that exercise has many benefits, but who would have thought it could positively affect your voice over work?

The most important thing it does is to speed up the blood flow to the brain, bringing extra much-needed oxygen to brain cells. Sitting for as little as 20 minutes can cause the blood circulation to slow down, resulting in a drop in energy and dulled thinking. The good news is that just 10 minutes of brisk walking can give up to 2 hours of increased energy.

As a voice over artist, there are additional benefits from getting physical. Doing an activity that makes you slightly winded for at least 10 minutes releases beta-endorphins, seratonin, and other feel good chemicals in your brain. These in turn ease stress and make you feel relaxed and happy. And if you stretch your 10 minutes to at least 20, this mood lift can last for up to 12 hours.

Another great health benefit found by the Queensland School of Human Movement Studies found that people who do only 60 minutes of moderate exercise a week have a lowered risk of depression by 30-40 percent.

So take this as your motivation, and get out today or this week and go for a walk, or a bike ride, or take the stairs at work. Your body will thank you for it, and so will your voice over clients.
